INFARMED hosted this Wednesday, June 2nd the 29th meeting of the Working Group of Enforcement Officers (WGEO) under the scope of the Portuguese Presidency of the Council of the European Union that takes place during the first half of this year.
The initiative brought together more than 110 participants of Enforcement Officers of national and international authorities and the European Commission for both Human and Veterinary medicinal products.
The participants discussed current activities and investigations related to the medicinal products area. During the session, a HMA and EMA update was submitted on activities in the area of vaccines and safety monitoring, as well as presentations on the inspection and laboratory activities by the Portuguese representatives.
There was also a debate following the lectures regarding enforcement actions taken in Germany. Finally, the participants were informed of the initiatives scheduled by the future Slovenian Presidency of the Council of EU.
The Working Group of Enforcement Officers (WGEO) is composed of representatives of the medicines national and international medicines competent authorities, police and customs, WHO, Council of Europe, as well as of the European Medicine Agency the European Commission, EUROPOL and INTERPOL. The group's objective is to share knowledge and experiences, organize and participate in joint investigations, adopt best practices and facilitate international cooperation in combatting pharmaceutical crime.
INFARMED is responsible until June for the coordination of a set of 20 meetings of the various Committees and Working Groups in the Medicines area.
