Infarmed hosted this Thursday its first meeting in the framework of the Portuguese Presidency of the Council of the European Union.
The event brought together the members of the Homeopathic Medicinal Products Working Group (HMPWG), that is part of the network of the Heads of Medicines Agencies. The HMPWG is a forum for exchange of regulatory and scientific expertise regarding the assessment of the quality, safety and homeopathic use of homeopathic medicinal products for human and veterinary use; It provides guidance on the assessment of homeopathic medicinal products on request from Competent Authorities, and guidance for applicants on the registration of homeopathic medicinal products. The meeting was chaired by Eva Mendes, of Infarmed, a member of the group since 2005.
During the meeting several issues of technical, scientifical and operational nature were addressed - namely the quality, safety and use of homeopathic medicines - as well as the possible steps to be taken in the future within the scope of the homeopathic medicines.
It was also proposed that the mixed format of meetings (live and virtual) should become more frequent.
